API V1 vs V2 response times

Since we switched to API version 2, requests seem to be slower. Is this normal? Is there any way to improve the response time? We are using the endpoint tour.

We’ve checked our logs and found a large increase in usage for your account since two weeks. The volume of requests is almost 5x higher and hitting the limit of our fair use policy. Because of this some throttling is done, approx 2 seconds per request.

To improve the response time you can either lower the number of requests, use multiple upgraded accounts in parallel, or upgrade to a higher level subscription.

We have made some changes to our application, have the number of requests been reduced? And when is the 2 second penalty per request removed?

From our logs we see approx 50% drop for yesterday compared to the peak a few days ago, and the throttling has stopped indeed.
